“Working Across the Table or the Globe: How to Use Visual Image Cards to Create Deeper Connection”

When the pandemic hit, the world of work and the world of learning changed.

By now, most workers and learners have adapted to remote or hybrid work. While they recognize the benefits, many report feeling disconnected or isolated. Virtual environments can be exhausting and conversations solely task driven. We can care more about our lighting or keeping our dog quiet, than we care about understanding our peer’s perspectives.

As facilitators, coaches, and learning professionals, we’ve always recognized the value of engaging learners and building trusting relationships through reflection and deep conversations. While we’ve gotten better at using virtual tools, many of us are still struggling with how to make those important connections and conversations in this new learning environment.

One reliable tool for creating connections is the use of image cards. While traditionally an in-room tool, with the right approach, they can be successfully applied in virtual T&D spaces. When used well, these deceptively simple tools can improve participation, stimulate discovery, encourage mutual disclosure and equality of voice, speed up agreement across groups and inspire collaboration and action.

In this interactive, thought provoking and fun session you will experience the use of virtual image cards to create real connection.

Outcomes from this program:

  • Recognition of the value of building connection in the learning environment
  • Deeper connection with your fellow ATD members from their experiences using the image cards (CCS)
  • Appreciation for using images in coaching, learning and development programs, and partnerships across the organization

Those who sign up for the sessions will be given access to download CCS cards virtual application for use in the program.

ATD Capability Model: This program supports all three aspects of our capability model with a focus on your professional development with: further understanding of visual processing and adult learning, continued recognition of the value of vulnerability/trust and authentic relationships; and access to tools for coaching and career development.

    Our Presenters

Your facilitators, Nancy and Leonie, met in Denver at the International ATD conference in 2012. Using the CCS cards, they quickly established a deep connection that has spanned the globe and years, offering them many meaningful conversations to broaden their own learning.

Nancy Ansheles, M.Ed., Catalyst & Co., www.nkacatalyst.com, based in Portland, Maine, has worked with tens of thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations. For almost 30 years, she has passionately facilitated creative learning programs to help her clients meet their goals. If you’ve attended one of her programs, you know Nancy combines her knowledge, skills, energy, and humor, to support others in reigniting their purpose, and continuing their development. She is most proud of the long-lasting trust and relationships she has built with local and global clients. Nancy has presented to the local and regional chapters of ATD, and been selected twice to present at the ATD International Conference.

Leonie Cutts, B.Ed., PCC, founder of CCS Corporation, https://ccs.cards, lives in rural NSW, Australia and actually has kangaroos on her lawn! Leonie is co-creator of the Compatibility Communication System (CCS Cards), an image-based system used for over 25 years all over the world in organizations, schools, counseling rooms and in families. Leonie is passionate about creating training experiences that bring people together and compel them to genuinely share and connect. Her proudest times as a coach and facilitator are when people open up and surprise themselves with what they have shared, leading to a breakthrough in their thinking or in their relationships. She has also co-created products using the CCS Cards including: Career CatalystComing Out-Staying Close and the new team workshop in a box: Collaborizza.
